About
Sean Leonard is an emerging artist based on Bundjalung Country in the Byron Shire. His paintings develop through instinctive mark-making, layering and revision. Moving between abstraction and drawing, his work has a restless visual language that remains open to change.
Leonard describes this work as joyful and slightly chaotic, made on his back deck in response to the mood and energy of the moment. Its extended title, Someone Dropped a Crate of Oranges into the Street and They Rolled Like Tiny Suns, reflects the bright, playful movement of the composition.

Guardian of the Home depicts a Guardian created from soil gathered on Bundjalung Country. The figure is a quiet reminder of the spirit held within all things, the land, the body, and the unseen. It honours the presence of guardians who watch over and protect, holding a deep, continuous connection between people, place, and ancestry.
