About
Josephine Kokfelt Ehlers is an artist based in the Byron Bay hinterland working across abstract painting, photography and collage. Her practice explores an ongoing fascination with the urban landscape, architecture, colour, line, shape and structure. Working between observation and abstraction, Josephine is drawn to the overlooked details of everyday environments - houses, roads, windows, fences, reflections and fragments of architecture. Her work moves between the familiar and the imagined, using intuitive processes and playful experimentation to transform these observations into paintings and images that explore ideas of place, home and the spaces we inhabit.

Built up, reworked and uncovered again, the layers hold traces of everything that came before. A lot of yellow, a lot of play. A house sits beneath a flower that has grown larger than the home itself - a small celebration of nature, colour and the joy of painting.
